MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

THE WALL

A wall is nothing but an obstacle. And obstacles are always going to present whenever you are chasing your dreams. When one comes to a wall there are several types of people - those who hit the wall and STOP, those who climb OVER the wall, those who see the wall coming and go AROUND it, and those who just keep going right THROUGH the wall.

Those who hit the wall and stop are a great majority. Sadly, these are those who will NEVER achieve anything great in their life, because they are too afraid to take the risk or refuse to see the possibilities BEYOND the obstacles in their path. They are content to sit back and watch life, instead of being a PART of it. Ironically, these are also those who are the most likely to be the ones throwing stones and obstacles in the paths of those who ARE out there taking the risks and doing great things.

Those who climb over the wall are few. They REFUSE to believe that the wall is the end of their hopes and dreams, knowing that there is a way OVER every obstacle set before them. They are the thinkers, the doers, those who step out there and just do what it TAKES to get the task done. They are NOT afraid to fall, trying again and again if they do, because what they want is far greater than the obstacles.

Those who see the wall coming and go around it are also few. They are the ones who are always thinking, always analyzing, always looking AHEAD. They are aware that NOTHING is easy, that there will always be obstacles, and they ALREADY have a plan before they come to any obstacles on how to deal with them, so that they expend as little effort as possible, being as EFFICIENT in the pursuit of their goals as they can be.

Those who keep going right through the wall are rare. They are the ones who refuse to let ANYthing stop them from achieving their goals and dreams, determined to have them at any cost, driven with a passion understood only by like-minded souls, possessing immense strength of both mind and body, believing and having such faith in their heart that NOTHING can stop them. They will do WHATEVER it takes and make every sacrifice to see their dreams made reality, even if it means that they come close to destruction in the process.

I know what I AM; what I DO. What type of person are YOU?

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

GRACE

None of us is perfect; nor will we ever be. Even so, that does mean we cannot STRIVE for perfection; our definition of it.

So, as I strive to be the BEST that I can possibly be, the STANDARD I hold myself to is one not of perfection (been there; done that, and it only sets one up for a lot of heartache and disappointment and self-hatred), but of GRACE, because I know that whilst my intentions are always for the best, I AM human, with “off” days and “mistakes” along the way. I can now acknowledge that it is OK to be HUMAN, instead of beating myself up for any “shortcomings” (that does nothing positive for the psyche and can be detrimental to anything being done or progress being made).

This does not mean that one gives permission to fail or not try, because neither is acceptable; instead it accepts that we are but human and there WILL be times when we need to “readjust” our timelines to make allowances for those “off” moments or things beyond our control. Striving for and standards held are two different things and one is not always the other, even though we should have them both set to the UTMOST possible.

So never stop aiming for the STARS and the very HIGHEST pinnacle you want to reach, for our dreams and goals ARE attainable. Just remember, as Vince Lombardi said, “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.”

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

WORK IN PROGRESS

EVERY day is a day for self-improvement, betterment of not just mind and soul, but body as well. Every day we can build ON the one before, make progress, continuing FORWARD. Momentum NEVER stops, seeking only to keep moving, striding, running, leaping, as if there were no end and this journey endless.

You see where you are now. Look in the mirror and take note of the “rough sketch” you have to work from, the “base” that you have to mould with. Envision the CHANGES you want to make, seeing them as if they were real right now and know that they WILL be.

Tighten up the NUTRITION. Work WITH your body, not the self-sabotage you were doing before. NOURISH it. Remember that the “cleaner” your food, the better you will feel, for your body will function more smoothly on what it operates BEST on.

Drill your body through training like you were preparing for WAR. Treat it like a machine. Train it like an athlete. You want not just aesthetics, but FUNCTION as well, for there is little use in simply “looking pretty” when it comes to “real life”.

Know your “limits”, but do not let them stop you. Know them, so you know what to push PAST. Recovery is important, but timing is everything. Test yourself. In your mind, set NO boundaries, NO limits, so that you can surpass anything and everything you might ever have thought you could or would.

YOU are a “Work in Progress”, a masterpiece being crafted in your own unique and special design. YOU are in control of how quickly you progress and where, so take ACCOUNTABILITY for your work. And because it is your OWN, let no one tell you what it should “be”, but yourself. You are doing this for YOU.

2012 | Day 270: MAKE IT YOUR OWN

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

MAKE IT YOUR OWN

There should be NO ONE else in existence that does what you do better than YOU, so OWN it! Make it your OWN! Put your personal SIGNATURE on it! Not just with your fitness, but in LIFE!

You are who you are for a REASON. You have a unique ability to turn the world into something wonderful just by being IN it. You are the smile in someone’s life and never forget it.

As far as fitness, NOTHING works the same for EVERYone. Everything affects each individual DIFFERENTLY. Therefore what you do should be for YOU, what WORKS for YOU, no matter what anyone else says or thinks about it.

LEARN as much as you can. EXPERIMENT with new things. Never stop seeking the next BEST thing, for your body NEVER stops CHANGING and YOU much change WITH it, ADAPT WITH it, CONSTANTLY be manipulating every factor possible to get the DESIRED result.

That’s how you make PROGRESS. That’s how you SUCCEED. Not just in fitness, but in LIFE! You make what you do your OWN, because it IS your own. No one else can be YOU or do what YOU do.

Day 266: ONE STEP FORWARD

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

Each day is a NEW day. A new day to take another CHANCE. A new day to take ANOTHER step. Another step FORWARD in the direction of your dreams. Another step forward, no matter how small. For even the smallest of steps is PROGRESS towards the fulfilment of the ultimate achievement. The ultimate achievement of the ULTIMATE dream. Whatever that may be. For it is different to each and every individual. But no matter what, I canNOT be stopped. I cannot be stopped from TAKING that step. I cannot be stopped from reaching that one bit FURTHER. I cannot be stopped from STRIVING for “just one more”. I cannot be stopped from doing my BEST, even if my “best” on any given day is not as good as it has been in the past or will be in the future. I will have given my best, my all on that day, and that is what MATTERS. What matters is moving FORWARD. What matters is keeping the dream ALIVE. Keeping the dream alive in my HEART and the hearts of those I touch. For when I touch others, I make a DIFFERENCE. And when you make a difference, especially in a dream, you can CHANGE the world. ONE step at a time.

2012 | Day 227: The Warrior In Me

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

The Warrior In Me

There are many times this year when I have almost “given up”, said “fcuk it” and just disappeared into the world. Many times when I have wanted to throw everything away, hide from everyone and go where no one can ever find me. Many times when I have thought that what was coming at me was too much for my spirit to take after everything that had gone before. Many times when I have wondered if I walk alone and deserted in this world, faith the only thing to give me any comfort or knowing that it might turn out ok.

Something inside me was stronger than I thought. Something inside me didn’t want to disappear quite yet. Something inside me knew with a quiet confidence that I could handle whatever was happening. Something inside me accepted that even if I was destined to walk alone, I was strong enough and capable enough to do it.

I am still here. I am still FIGHTING. I am still giving it EVERYTHING I can. I still BELIEVE!

There are many things in this world that we do not or will not ever understand, but I have faith that no matter what happens, it can only force us to become BETTER than we are, to prepare us for what is to come, to make sure we are as strong as possible to prevail and succeed!

Remember that there is a Warrior in each of us. A Warrior who will NOT run, who ROARS at adversity, who revels in the challenges life throws at us, steadfast in the position they hold in the world.

© 2012 Rosie Chee

Quote for Reflection: “I try to run, but the warrior in me won't run away. I try to hide, but the soul inside of me want to stay. A million times or more I thought it was the end, but here I am still standing the lion roars again. Many trials and tribulations along the way. My faith is stronger than my fears!” - Avadean Lewis

TRAINING

Monday - HIIT Run + Shoulders/Hamstrings + Post-Weights Cardio

Tuesday - Arms/Abs + Post-Weights Cardio

Wednesday - HIIT Run

Thursday - Full-Body + Post-Weights Cardio

Friday - Shoulders/Arms/Abs + Post-Weights Cardio

Saturday - Run 3 miles

Sunday - Day OFF

OTHER NOTES

Sleep: Have not been going to bed between 2300-0000 this week, getting up at 0430 - has not taken me too long to fall asleep once in bed, and almost half an hour after waking to "wake up", but it has been good for me and nice to be back on schedule.

Energy: Energy has been ok until between 1400-1500, when it fades for a while, leaving me quite lightheaded and like I want to pass out, but worked through it.

Joints: Shoulders - both have been aching badly. Wrists - more left than right, but have tried to keep it "firm" in training and not strap it up. Left elbow has been causing a few issues. Left hip also niggling, although not as bad as it was the last couple of weeks.

Body Composition: 8.6% bodyfat - a loss of 0.3% bodyfat. And that is with ONE bad MEAL this week - last Saturday, actually, also creating a 12-hour feeding window on that day. So, just goes to show that "dieting" or "being good" for ME means LESS progress than if I eat "normally", but with the 16-hour fast/8-hour feeding window, and I was even told that this morning, LOL - "your body doesn't work when you're dieting", so those who have read my interviews where a couple of actual meal examples are given, re quantity and in general the good given, is what gives me the BEST results. Not too pleased at the minimal progress, but with training not even at Maintenance and everything going on, I will take it - so long as I am where I want to be in 2-3 weeks.

Training: Back to training first thing in the morning before heading into work. Have been quite lightheaded during training, as well as nauseous EVERY session, particularly during weights, which is interesting the latter. Runs have also been on the slower side, but at least I am OUTside doing them again. Training has not QUITE been at Maintenance - since only done a few minutes of skipping instead of a 3-mile run on Tuesday and Thursday prior to going to the gym for resistance training, and evening runs either. So next week will be at Maintenance.

Supplements: Finished my tub of Assault last Sunday, so been without that this week as well, which might have made some difference in my progress.

Overall Sense of Feeling: Stressful week, full on and at times a little overwhelming, but I settled into it reasonably well and was starting to find my stride towards the end of it, which is good. I'm also taking most of the weekend to allow myself to just chill out and relax, so that will help as well, especially heading into next week, which is going to be even busier, but nothing I can't handle. NOT giving up and giving it EVERYthing!

2012 | Day 222: I Like Who I'm Becoming

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

I Like Who I'm Becoming

I am not the person I was a year ago, nor several months ago, even a week ago or a day ago. Like life and time I am constantly evolving, changing as my soul experiences everything in an hourglass of passion and depression, hope and despair, love and loathing, progress and stagnation. Everything that I see, hear, taste, smell, and do has an impact no matter how small or big, whether I realize it or not, and affects how I ultimately perceive the world, myself, and my position in it.

Constant evolution suggests constant PROGRESS, BECOMING BETTER, leaving behind the shell of who I was, accepting and embracing and stepping into the new, the unknown future and all it holds for me. There is no fear of what is to come, for I have something far greater alongside all the weapons I need to take stance against anything and all who might come against me, knowing that He will ALWAYS have my back, that everything I go through has PURPOSE.

Is there pain? Yes. Is there sorrow? Yes. Is there darkness? Yes. But there is also joy and happiness and light, and it is THOSE things that my soul holds on for, the glimpse of them that hope has afforded me, the woman that I will be at the end of it all, who I am becoming for the one I am being created FOR. There can be no triumph without struggle, no strength without experiencing weakness, no life without the exchange of death, and I have struggled in and with my weakness, dying to be reborn into the life I was MEANT to live.

I am a different creature than I once was. I am changed in ways I never thought I would be. I see things I never thought I would see. I hold dreams I never thought I would ever care for. I have allowed the hard shell of the rock island that I was to be penetrated, a crumbling of the wall that once kept the world at bay and me safe inside, eroding as slowly I step into the light, trembling as I share my soul with the world I stayed aloof from for a lifetime, a shy emergence of a rare softness and vulnerability peeking out from the “machine”.

I am becoming something more than I ever imagined. I am becoming all that I was intended to be. Instead of heaviness there is lightness in my soul, a quiet calm even as there blows a maelstrom, because I know that I am growing into my destiny. I am growing into “my own”, a woman with complete confidence in herself and her abilities and place in the world, at peace with her heart and soul and the desires no longer hidden there. I know some don’t approve of my choices or like the path I have embarked on, but this is MY life, not theirs, and I LIKE who I’m becoming and I WELCOME it.

Day 327: Recovery Complete & Goals Achieved

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Nothing that happens in your life is insignificant…God never wastes anything. He would not give you abilities, interests, talents, gifts, personality, and life experiences unless he intended to use them for his glory." – Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life

GOALS & PROGRESS

"Recovering from a double fracture in my left wrist...my main priority is to get back to MY normal training levels as soon as possible..."
I have now completely recovered from the double fracture in my left wrist - in fact, this happened at least a month ago, and my left wrist has not given me any issues for quite some time now.

"Secondary goal is recomping to maintain my current muscle mass and lean down to 7-8% bodyfat!"
I have recomped and leaned down to under 8% bodyfat - although I started at 8.8% bodyfat, it went up and down and I ended up at a final 7.9% bodyfat. I gained back ALL of the muscle mass I lost when I was unable to train because of my left wrist, and then some. The BIGGEST part about all of this though is the fact that - not for the lack of "intending to", I might add - I did it all withOUT dieting, my diet "normal" for me ("normal" is what everyone ELSE considers a "cheat" ALL the time!)

"Since I could not compete in July as planned...I am looking at competing in late October..."
I did not compete (for reasons explained when it came to make that decision), but my body is now more proportional than it has ever been - in fact, it is almost perfectly symmetrical on both sides re upper AND lower body, which it has never been before, and any muscle size discrepancies that were created because of what I could - and couldn't - do [when I started training again] re left wrist are now gone, and I have SURPASSED the aesthetic physical condition I was in PRIOR to my injury!

OTHER NOTES

Going forward, as I said in my last update, I am going to be doing my best to MAINTAIN the lower body composition that I have attained - usually, I would maintain between 8-10% bodyfat, but knowing how I feel and look at different stages, I now feel rather UNcomfortable at anything too much more than ~9% bodyfat, and so desire to maintain something closer to ~8% bodyfat, aiming to "allow" myself to go now higher than ~8.2-8.3% bodyfat from now on.

As far as training, I have trained for athletic performance purposes - strength, power, speed, endurance; I have trained for muscle growth - gains in upper body; I have trained for leaning - no different than training for anything else, honestly. I no longer have any focus on athletic performance and I am quite ok with the muscle mass that I now have in my upper body - in fact, I wouldn't mind LOSING some more from my lower body, and "slimming" up my lower back, because the muscle there seems to "bulge" out because of my scoliosis (something that becomes more noticeable the leaner I get). Therefore, training from now on is simply going to be working on maintaining the current muscle mass and leanness that I have, but also on improving several areas of my body - for example, no more work for Legs, because they are big enough already; and cutting work for Chest and Back down to only what is done in my weekly Full-Body session, because working my Back is making it wider and thicker all over, and I need to work on "slimming" the mid to lower region up. As far as strength goes, I am not too concerned with what I am lifting - so long as what I am doing is challenging me and making my body work and scream.

Re nutrition, the last 10 weeks have taught me more than ever what it is important for me to minimize - and ideally AVOID! - as far as food, and I need to take more heed of this for health reasons, which I will do. I have also continued to adapt my own modification of the Lean Gains nutritional protocol so that it is "perfect" for ME, and will continue on using such a method, albeit being better with WHAT I eat.

There you have it - the last 10 weeks have taught me a lot. Not just about my body and training and nutrition, etc., but about BALANCE - my life has become a little more balanced and I am starting to enjoy it a little more, albeit still stressed as anything (just not quite as much). I am growing and developing more as an individual, and I am slowly starting to accept myself, which is a HUGE deal - almost as huge as getting below 8% bodyfat. So, it has been an INvaluable journey - although VERY upset when I refractured my left wrist, it really was a BLESSING, and although I knew at the time that it happened for a reason, to teach me something, now I understand more fully just WHAT that reason was!

Through it all, though, it was never done on my own strength, and any Glory for what I have done and achieved over the last 10 weeks goes to God and Him alone - I am only a living testament to His Grace and Power, to show that ANYthing is possible if you but have Faith and Desire and the Willingness to JUST DO IT!

Day 164: Change to Progress

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

"If there is no path to get where I want to go that's cool. I'll make my own." - Layne Norton

TRAINING

HIIT - Run:
a. 4 min jogging
b. 12 x 20 sec sprint/10 sec easy
c. 10 min jogging

Shoulders/Hamstrings (1 min recovery between sets):
1. Behind-the-neck BB Military Press 6 x 12, 12, 10, 10, 8, 8
2. BB Military Press 6 x 12, 10, 10, 10, 10, 8
3. Single-Arm Cable Lateral Raises 6 x 10 per side
4. Stiff-Legged BB Deadlifts (BB to touch floor) 6 x 12

Post-Weights Cardio - Rollers:
20 min in 39x18 @ 100 rpm

Stretch 25 min.

COMMENTS

Sleep - Time and Quality: On and off, waking several times.

Mood/Aggression: Up and down.

Energy: Definitely more with the cooler weather and getting up earlier.

Stress: High and rising.

Endurance: Speed endurance has improved a lot.

Quality of Training: HIIT was great. Love running outside when the temperature is what it was. Speed endurance awesome, and most of my sprints were actually 25-30 seconds, passing quickly and over before I realized that they were . . . Resistance training was good. Some improvising today with the Cable Lateral Raises, since I want to keep doing Single-Arm Lateral Raises . . . Rollers post-weights was a little slower than usual, feeling glutes a bit, but was ok . . .

Appetite: Back to "normal" eating, after the weekend, where every meal was ~5,000-6,000 calories each - no sh*tting; Sean just LAUGHED at me!

Other Notes: Going to be adding a little in re training this week, since it's time I made some small changes, to ensure that I keep progressing, especially since the leaner one gets, the slower progress can be, and I don't want my progress to slow down. Will also be cleaning my nutrition up.

Day 146: Blessings and New Arrivals

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character." - T. Alan Armstrong

TRAINING

Cardio - Run:
1.5 miles @ 4.2 min/km

Back/Chest (30 sec recovery between alternate sets):
Alternate Set A -
1. Supinated BB Bent Over Rows 4 x 10
2. Flat BB Bench Press 4 x 10, 9, 8, 8
Alternate Set B -
3. Supinated Lat Pull-Downs (in squat position) 4 x 10
4. Incline BB Bench Press 4 x 10

Post-Weights Cardio - Rollers:
20 min in 39x18 @ 106 rpm

Stretch 21 min.

COMMENTS

Mood/Aggression: Wow, the news just keeps coming this week. My nephew has been named, my career path is opening up, one of my close friends is pregnant, a lot of time has been spent talking to family and close friends - life is moving along at a fast pace of knots! God is truly heaping on the blessings for me - this is going to be a HUGE period in my life for change and progress!

Energy: There! Got told I look "bright" today.

Endurance: Pretty good.

Vascularity: Definitely carbohydrates with a reasonable amount of sodium make my vascularity "pop" (not to mention muscular pump/definition).

Quality of Training: Run pre-weights was good - stitch ~4 minutes in, but kept going. Resistance training was a little shorter than it has been, but still intense, albeit almost a "relief" for my body. Rollers afterwards, and looking in the mirror before getting on them, bicep definition was the best it has EVER been.

Recovery: Bright and fresh!

Appetite: Re Intermittent Fasting, have found that eating a big meal every 12-16 hours is the best for my body re results, regardless of whether or not it is after training, so will continue with this.

Body Composition and Look: Midsection starting to look better. Striations starting to come out a little in my anterior and lateral deltoids. Arms looking the best ever.

Other Notes: I have SO MUCH to look forward to when I go back to New Zealand for Christmas/New Year!

Day 93: Purpose Is Focus

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Knowing your purpose simplifies your life. It defines what you do and what you don't do. Your purpose becomes the standard you use to evaluate which activities are essential and which aren't." - Rick Warren

TRAINING

Today is this week's Day OFF. I was and are tempted to do a light rollers' session, but are leashing myself, since rest and recovery is important to progress.

Since I have made my Day Off on a Sunday over the last three weeks, it will stay like that. I can get through the training week, no matter how hard.

COMMENTS

Sleep - Time and Quality: On and off for ~10 hours. Still very broken, perpetuated by that sharp and deep inner pain. Honestly, I think the reason I slept so long (and have some of the days this week) is not because of training, but because this pain seems to take so much out of me.

Mood/Aggression: Still on the UP

Energy: I don't have a lot of physical energy today (after being up and down all night/morning with the pain), which is ok, since it's not a training day today.

Mental Focus and Clarity: This is clear, though. Clear, concentrated, and FOCUSED!

Stress: High as ever, but my focus has SHIFTED.

Recovery: It's not training I am "recovering" from.

Body Composition and Look: 117 pounds at 10.6% bodyfat. A 1% bodyfat loss this week - AND that's with only single daily training sessions and every other day at HIGHER than Maintenance calories! The change is definitely noticeable. I am making some progress in getting my lower body mass down (YES - airpunch!) - with a 2-cm girth loss in both my glutes and thighs (also in my waist). Deltoids and arms are looking the best ever. I am excited to see this progress and look forward to the next few weeks!

Other Notes: This week has been a TURNING POINT for me - not just with progress, but with my MIND. I have found what I have been missing. I have renewed the fire that I used to have. I have clarity. I have passion. I have focus. I am READY!

December 29, 2010

Day 363: Progress is Not Just about Doing

Quote of the Day

"Going backward is never an option." - Irial, Ink Exchange (Melissa Marr)

Training

HIIT Run:
a. 4 min jogging
b. 8 x 30 sec effort/30 sec rest
c. 4 min jogging

Stretch 10 min.

Upper Body (30 sec recovery between supersets):
Superset A -
1. Behind-the-neck BB Military Press 3 x 15, 8, 6
2. DB Clean and Press 3 x 15, 8, 6

Stretch 10 min.

Comments

Sleep - Time and Quality: I think I'm just going to have to stay awake for ~48 hours and make sure that my body gets back on track as far as waking and sleeping when I want it to.

Mood/Aggression: Not very happy at all - especially about cutting training short today, even though it's probably for the better.

Energy: Not a lot. Moving slowly.

Mental Focus and Clarity: Have to make sure I am all with it today - do the things I was planning on doing tomorrow.

Stress: HIGH!

Joints: EVERYthing has been aching - miss the Erase.

Endurance: Ok.

Strength: My body is so painful that even the light weights were not light enough (sigh).

Pump: PAIN!

Vascularity: Pretty decent.

Quality of Training: HIIT was poor by anyone's standards. My body was so sore that even my efforts were barely faster than a quick jog. My pectorals were also aching every time I took a step, deep bruising pain between my breasts, which was odd . . . Started resistance training. By the second superset, I knew that I was not going to get out the planned 6x15-20 of five supersets. I stubbornly did another superset after that, but even at the lighter weight, it was still not happening, and my shoulders/arms were screaming in pain (they're screaming in pain when I'm NOT lifting, let alone when I am!). Rather than frustrate myself further and just end up getting angry and severely pissed off (which I did anyway), I stopped and decided to do today's session tomorrow, and let my body try recuperate for tomorrow (I say "try", because I'll probably feel the same as today) . . .

Recovery: I AM IN PAIN ALL OVER! The first week of getting back into training after time off is always the toughest, but I don't think I have ever been this sore, honestly.

Body Composition and Look: Until last year, I was fortunate enough only to have to deal with the same fat distribution as a male, but for some reason, my body is now working against me and giving me female AND male problems areas, damnit! Tells me I have to start being more serious about training and making sure that I don't slack off no matter what, and even though Maintenance is higher than what it has ever been, it has to be DONE, period!

Other Notes: Sometimes we have to realize when to stop and ease up. Progress is not always made by thrashing oneself into the ground and hoping we recover from it. Progress is made from knowing when to stop and when to push on. I'll be the first to admit that I have a hard time realizing when something is going to cause more damage than good and stop, but I am slowly learning. My head does not like to do what I did today, because I perceive not doing what I set out to do as a weakness, and I hate weakness - in myself more than anything. However, progress is not just about doing - especially when we know that results are made during the RECOVERY period - and my head is just going to have to deal. I know I have to start taking care of myself, and that means being strong. Strength comes from within, indeed, and sometimes strength is doing nothing.
