I've never been one to have or want lots of friends and as I get older I appreciate even more the rare REAL of the people I let into my life. Sure, I sometimes make "mistakes", but now more than ever I am truly thankful and grateful for those friends I can say are FAMILY.

True friends are rare. And a tribe of soul sisters even rarer. But they are there. And there is little more powerful than such a tribe... Of women who understand each other. Who are not intimidated or threatened by other women. Who do not seek competition with other women. But who seek to empower each other, give strength and support one another, individually and collectively as they journey through life... There is great power in such a tribe. Real inspiration in that power. To power through and conquer every heartache, setback and curveball that life throws. Power through true unity and friendship... Be one of those women. One of the beautifully broken souls that builds up other beautifully broken souls, encouraging a life of happiness and healing (for all encountered). Someone who creates and cultivates a culture of "tribe" with other soul sisters. The rare friend who is "family" true to soul...

HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Pohutukawa trees and the beaches of endless sand ... two things of immense beauty unique to and that I miss from my homeland ... the glorious crimson red of the blossoms always remind me of Christmas, the New Zealand summer Christmas filled with sunshine, family and memories ... it's still Christmas Day there, soon to be Boxing Day and here, His Birthday begins ... I wish everyone everywhere the joy of love and family on this day of all days, and for those who are not (whether by choice or otherwise), remember that there is always love abound, and may your heart still smile with [His] happiness ...

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

TRUE FRIENDS

That's what true friends are for: When one falls, the other reaches down to help them up. When one struggles, the other encourages them on. When one has an off day, the other motivates them along. When one loses their smile, the other is there to lend theirs.

They share the journey of life together with its ups and downs, highs and lows, joy and sadness, happiness and pain, love and loss, always there for one another, no matter what. That's what true friends do.

True friends are rare and if you have them, hold them close to your heart, as precious as gems that take a lifetime to find, for that's what they are. They help bring out our inner light, the sparkle in our eyes, the hope in our heart, the faith when we can't find it on our own.

I would rather a few true friends than many "friends" whose value in my life is meaningless, because I know what I am to someone else and what I have when I have another as such in my life.

2012 | Day 1: Reflection on 2011 & Goals for 2012

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

"From this day forward I don’t "settle" for anything less then perfection and what I deserve. No more second best...ONLY the best! I will be better in every aspect from my career to my relationships..." - Brent Allen

REFLECTION ON 2011

2011 has been a mixed bag, a year of immense struggle and frustration, but also a year of great opportunities and blessings.

Early on I started focusing on making Rosie’s MuscleRevolution more than just a "hobby" I have a passion for, and for the first two thirds of the year, made my living solely from my clients. It’s been interesting learning the ins and outs of building a business from the ground up, especially considering when I started my website and online training, it was just something I did because I enjoyed it and wanted to help others, giving them the RIGHT information and direction to start with and from re fitness. Now though, Rosie’s MuscleRevolution has become so much MORE, evolving as I have changed and grown, and my website will continue to be updated throughout 2012.

As a challenge I decided to branch out in the industry and explore fitness modelling, having a blast doing my first photoshoots of the year in May and June. I enjoyed working with the photographers so much that I worked with them again in November, and have the honour of being in OAMG’s first ever, limited edition 2012 Calendar!

In May, I was blessed with a new addition to the family - Noah Isaiah Chee, the most beautiful little boy you ever saw! I could not be prouder of my brother for everything that he has done and will do - he is a great father; Noah is a very special and lucky child to have the parents he does. I cannot wait to go back home and meet this smiling boy (whom I have "watched" grow through pictures on Facebook and brief Skype conversations). There comes a time when family (and close friends) starts to mean more to you than you can imagine, and although I keep in regular contact with mine (spread all over the world), I DO miss them and being directly involved in their lives.

The second half of 2011 has been perhaps the hardest, but also the most rewarding. At the start of August I refractured my left wrist, which took me out of training for almost two months. Having learnt the first time I fractured that wrist in 2009 that everything happens for a reason - to teach us something or cause us to slow down and reflect - I tried to see the blessing in the tragedy. The upside: I was able to finally sit down and reassess my goals and priorities, getting things done that I have wanted to start or do for a long time, but might not have otherwise made time for, including but not limited to starting my own monthly online newsletter, get on Twitter, and approach World Physique Magazine about becoming a contributing author - I was given my own Motivation column in the magazine, as well as started a daily online Motivational for WPM Women (one of WPM's latest magazine additions, the first issue coming this month)!
The downside: I lost all the muscle mass in my shoulders and arms that I had worked so hard all year until then to build. However, that too became a plus: When I was able to start training again in September I packed the muscle back on in record time - and then SOME! For the FIRST time in my life, my body was BALANCED re upper and lower, my girths the same on both sides, symmetrical, and finally in a condition that I was happy with (which is HUGE for those who know me)!

Around the time that I restarted training, I relocated to Texas for a new job: Training all the new members in a fitness facility. Most of the individuals that I work with have never been in a gym before or ever done any sort of structured exercise, so having a trainer start them out on an individualized training programme, demonstrating the exercises, making sure they have the correct form/technique and breathing, teaching them how they can progress their training, is ideal, and something rarely offered anywhere in the world (free of charge to the receiving party). 80% of those I work with are older, their many issues (rehabilitating from acute surgeries or chronic injury, and battling lifestyle diseases), some of whom have been turned away from other fitness facilities because of this. It has been very rewarding hearing feedback from members on how much better they feel (99% of them), how they are sleeping for the first time in years (a woman who has fibromyalgia), that they are starting to be able to walk properly again (an elderly woman who has been in a walker and cannot move around with the support of it for years), the lack of pain where there has been constant pain (a woman who has had multiple back surgeries), the increase in range of motion (many who have had rotator cuff and/or knee replacement surgeries) - the list goes on. I really enjoy my work, doing what I am passionate about: Motivating and helping others make - and educating them on CONTINUING to make - decisions that have a POSITIVE effect on the quality of their life!

In November I had a couple of trips to Florida, where I worked with several amazing photographers, setting the foundation for being able to get increased exposure to be able to speak to a larger audience re fitness and as a testament of God’s Glory, Grace and Strength, a living example of what can be done if one wants it badly enough and is willing to do what it takes to get there.

On returning from Florida at the end of November, my right biceps tendon finally tore (after years of being aggravated and ignored), causing a domino effect of new injuries (torn rotator cuff tendon) and old ones flaring up (nerve root impingement in cervical vertebrae, lower back pain and bone bruising) and worsening (chondromalacia - bone fragments becoming loose bodies in my knees) - forcing MORE time out from training, ironically coming on the heels of such an awesome month and only ~3 months of being back in training after my left wrist injury. But, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger - I am a Warrior, and I WILL get through this (I just hope that I recover ASAP!) and come back better than ever!

Training Last Week of 2011

Fourth week out of commission. My knees have been worse than my right shoulder/arm to be honest, and the day after any that I spend anything more than ~1 hour on my feet or walking around, both my knees swell up and seize, limiting my range of motion, sharp and intense pain on movement. My left hip has been getting worse as well re pain. Although I don't see myself being able to train this week, once I'm back in Texas, I AM going to go out for a run and see how that goes - foolish perhaps, especially considering jarring my shoulder is not smart, and my knees/hip barely handle walking, but I have to at least TRY! I am SICK of NOT being able to do anything and it is driving me INsane! I'm also going to see what I can do re upper body with weights - any shoulder extension or external rotation and things like Dips are out of the question for my right shoulder/arm, because of the extreme pain and lack of range of motion even now attempting it ASSISTED, and shoulder abduction is still very limited before I want to fall screaming to the ground, but at least I have SOME.

Body Composition Heading into 2012

As expected, my body composition continued to rise this week and is now at 8.8% bodyfat - no training is definitely affecting me (as well as the constant eating, which I have been doing - spankings there!) I don't appear to have lost any of my muscle, and whilst gaining bodyfat is NOT desirable, I am relieved that I am MAINTAINING my muscle mass!  There is a HUGE difference in how I look and feel this week from last week, and if last week didn't already confirm it, I know for definite that I do NOT feel comfortable with my body at anything over ~8.3% bodyfat (and certainly not if I am unable to train)! So, I need to lean out and STAY lean, maintaining less than 8.2-8.3% bodyfat!

GOALS FOR 2012

My goals for 2012 have not changed - with the exception of my TOP priority now being recovery from the multiple injuries that hit me a month ago.

That said, during the time that I start back at training, I am going to be working not just on recovery, but on leaning back down to <8.3% bodyfat, from there not "allowing" myself to go higher than ~8.2-8.3% bodyfat.

With training, recovery comes first with what I can and can't do, obviously, but then my training is simply going to be working on maintaining my current muscle mass (and leanness, once leaned back down), and improving several areas of my body. As far as strength goes, I am not too concerned with what I am lifting (and as I recover, it's not going to be very much at all) - so long as what I am doing is challenging me and making my body work and scream.

Nutrition is perhaps still the most important factor and I need to take more heed for health reasons. I know what foods my body feels (and looks) best after, what foods my body is intolerant of and sensitive to, what times different foods are best consumed by my body, and what nutritional protocol works best for my body. I will continuing with my own modification of the Lean Gains nutritional protocol since it is "perfect" for ME, albeit eating what and when I know is going to be best for my body and health!

Even though 2011 ended on a bittersweet note, I KNOW that God has Great things in store for 2012 and I am Excited about it! I plan on making 2012 the BEST year of my life ("so far", as says Homer Simpson) PROFESSIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, AND PERSONALLY!

"'For I know the plans I have for you', says the Lord, 'plans to give you hope and a future.'" - Jeremiah 29:10

Day 359: Happy Christmas to the Rest of the World!

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Be the change you want to see in the world." - Ghandi

For the complete Motivational, review Changing the World | WPM Women.

TRAINING

ANOTHER week out! GRRRRRRR!!!!!!! My body may have not felt it so much the first couple of weeks - probably needed the rest - but this last week has been another story altogether, and I am feeling AND seeing it! NOT cool! I'm praying and hoping that I can at LEAST get back on my bike by the end of next week! This can NOT go on!!!

OTHER NOTES

Body Composition

After having my body composition drop the last two weeks, this week it went soaring back to 8.4% bodyfat - a little to be expected given no training and the fact that I have been eating a lot more than usual (yes, even than I was last week, when I felt like I was hungry all the time and always eating). Higher than what I want to maintain, so there is some definite mental beating going on right now - as bad as it sounds, I do NOT feel comfortable at this body composition and NEED to be LEANER (NOT training DEFINITELY makes a HUGE difference in how I feel and look, since I was 8.4% bodyfat for my photoshoot with Dan Ray re images posted last week)! Definitely noticing the additional bodyfat - as always, the "tyre" that is a much HATED flaw! Losing lean body mass - so hoping that NONE of it is MUSCLE mass, although noticing a little going from my shoulders, which brings another GRRR, because I have worked my ass off TWICE now this year to GAIN muscle there!

Injuries

Right shoulder is still in a lot of pain, albeit allowing me to sleep at least, so that is a plus. Range of motion I am slowly pushing every day, and a couple of times I have been able to get it to shoulder height as a front raise - the downside is that the pushing it means that the next day I am back to not being able to move it without extreme agony and have to keep my right arm as still as possible. But, slowly, slowly...The swelling is gradually decreasing in both my knees. On Thursday evening I was able to walk around without a walking stick for the first time in a while, so that was good. I can only walk around for 60-90 minutes before my knees REALLY start hurting, I get lightheaded and feel exhausted, but at least I CAN walk around UNassisted now (albeit feeling it a lot in my left hip and upper hamstring/lateral thigh). I end up sleeping a lot the day after being up and about, as well as later on the day (if I am around early). Not being able to train is affecting my breathing and energy levels as well - which is likely why being up and about exhausts me so easily, and I am sleeping more...So, another week of being bedridden and as inactive as possible, to let my body recover - RECOVER FAST!!! Not being able to train is killing me slowly one day at a time!

Christmas/New Year

Talked to my family back home yesterday - was so nice to see and hear them :) Noah was watching the screen as if to say "whoa - there's someone moving on the computer", LOL :D He is so adorable! Being away from home so long HAS made me more than a little "homesick" I will admit, and I definitely canNOT wait until I am back in my beloved country again!

Had a beautiful Christmas with my second family in the US. It was great to be able to relax and just chill. I have been Blessed indeed :)

Day 358: Happy Christmas United States!

Quote of the Day

"One day at a time - this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful it will be worth remembering." - Unknown

Training

HIIT Cardio:
a. 4 min easy
b. 8 x 50 sec effort/10 sec easy
c. 4 min easy

Stretch 20 min.

Comments

Sleep - Time and Quality: ~6 hours, which can be classed as slightly over normal for me.

Energy: I was energetic when I first work up for a few hours, but the last half of the day I have been falling back into fatigue, and think I even passed out for an hour on the couch.

Stress: Even on today of all days, still high in some areas.

Quality of Training: Ok.

Body Composition and Look: I am definitely holding water, and the reason has become apparent - it's not entirely due to my lack of water consumption over the last week. Today, of all days, and now, of all times, when it is such a rare event - sometimes being a female is a nuisance. Ah well, hope it's over quickly . . . My lack of RESISTANCE training has also made a difference on how my body looks and feels - just goes to show how IMPORTANT this is to me in my ability to maintain my leanness and physique, not just for health and fitness reasons. Looking forward to being back to a proper training schedule next week . . .

Other Notes: HAPPY CHRISTMAS UNITED STATES! It's my second White Christmas - yes, it snowed last night (and I was out shoveling this morning). As much as I enjoy the snow, next Christmas I definitely want to be back home in New Zealand - especially since my immediate family is expanding, and I don't want to miss out on the lives of my family and friends any more than I have already by being over here in the US. Until then, those I love and care for are in my mind and heart, and I look forward to being able to see them again. And in the meantime, it's time to make a fresh new start!

Day 357: Happy Christmas New Zealand!

Quote of the Day

"That some achieve great success, is proof to all that others can achieve it as well." - Abraham Lincoln

Training

Cardio 20 min.

Stretch 20 min.

Comments

Sleep - Time and Quality: WTF is up with me these days?! I slept for nearly 12 hours! Woke with a screaming migraine to boot - so very uncool.

Energy: Feel like the walking dead.

Stress: High as ever.

Quality of Training: Decent.

Other Notes: HAPPY CHRISTMAS NEW ZEALAND! If I was back home now, I would be celebrating Christmas in the summer sun with family and a real Christmas tree - I actually miss it. Will ring the family later today . . . Ironically, I finish my current bottle of Erase tomorrow (not happy about that either), and I finished my current bottle of Lipotrophin-PM yesterday. Not got much BLACK CATS left either - at this rate, I'm going to be going into 2011 with barely even my STAPLES. Ah well, time to start the New Year off with a fresh, clean canvas to paint new chapters of my life on . . .

April 28, 2010

Day 118: Killing Legs

After my afternoon walk yesterday, I was shattered, passing out on the couch two hours before I planned on going to bed . . . Sleeping for 14 hours! Woke feeling like crap, but got myself ready to head into another day . . .

pm

Cardio 20 min.

Abs/Hamstrings (1 min recovery between sets/supersets):

Superset A -

1. Hanging Straight-Leg Raises/Curls 4 x 10

2. Deadbugs (on bench) 4 x 10

3. Stiff-Legged BB Deadlifts 4 x 10

4. BB Good Mornings 4 x 10

Superset B -

5. Weighted Rope Crunches 4 x 10

6. Plank 4 x 1 min

Post-Weights Cardio 20 min.

Stretch 20 min.

Pre-weights cardio was fine . . . Pain, pain, pain, during resistance training - right from the first superset. Hamstrings were stretched and painful to the max, and were screaming by the end of the first exercise. Abs continued screeching through Superset B . . . Post-weights cardio, surprisingly, was done at a high pace, legs feeling fresh (interesting) . . .

Energy through the rest of the day was fine. Even went for another afternoon walk.

Still on the carbohydrate bandwagon, with an insistent craving for pancakes, of all things.

Despite that, mood is good - probably in part that my baby sister is visiting for a few days. Great to see family, especially when my immediate family is spread out all over the world!

I am noticing that adding post-weights cardio back in is making a difference - I noticed that when I first started doing it as well, especially re progress with fat loss. Definitely makes it more manageable . . .
