ADVERSITY

Adversity, hardships, obstacles, when life kicks you down so low you don’t know how long it will take you to stand – that’s when you see the TRUE measure of a person. That’s when you see their real CHARACTER. For when the sun goes into hiding, if there is no true light in one’s soul, all that will be seen will be the darkness seeping out from them. When the winds fare not well on the ocean of life, then shall the temperament kept locked down in the hold of their soul be unleashed.

When you come across adversity, you discover things about yourself. Some might surprise you, even for those pure in heart, for they are not what you thought you were capable of. Some do not, for the true soul, the one who is not afraid to live transparently, has nothing to hide from those who would seek to thrown stones at glass castles.

When you stand against adversity, you pull deep down to the core. You find strength you might have never had to use before. You find courage to use that strength. You find a hardness that would never have become otherwise. You find that your soul has much more capacity to love and forgive than you ever thought possible for you. You find different dreams hiding in the crevices of your heart.

When you face adversity, you become so much MORE than you are. You come through the fires of hell with any excesses burnt away, so that all that is left standing is the true creature that you are. You come away with greater knowledge of your soul and all that you are willing to do, understanding better than ever that which has become dearest to your heart.

When you look adversity head on, you can know that it is nothing more than another of life’s tests, a game meant to break you down to your essence, so that you can know what you have. You can know what is at your foundation. It destroys so that you can rebuild – into the person you have potential and were always MEANT to be.

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

TRUE STRENGTH

TRUE strength is not always shown. It is not always KNOWN about. You may never fathom in your lifetime what another is or has gone through if you cannot SEE it or do not know about it firsthand. True STRENGTH often lies hidden in the souls of those who smile on the outside when they are crying on the inside, holding out a helping hand to the world when they can barely stand themselves, giving of themselves when they can little afford to.

Strength does not mean “power”. Strength does not mean “fame”. Strength does not mean “glory”. Often, true strength is in the silent tears dripping in one’s soul as they let the world think their life is “charmed” and everything is “perfect”, the world wishing that they could have such a life and be such a person. True strength does not NEED the world to see it, but lies in quiet throughout that individual’s struggle.

The strongest soul does NOT always desire recognition for their battles, and in due time their struggles will be known to others. When the time is “right” or they need to find that strength all over again because another is in the same or a similar place that they have been in, they will reveal their battles in order to aid that other, and in such knowledge, in the willingness to “reopen” wounds that should be left alone, you will see a true WARRIOR.

2013 | Day 79: WITHOUT PASSION

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

WITHOUT PASSION

Without passion life is NOTHING. It is merely existing. And life is not for “existing”, surviving, hoping to get through the next storm. It is for LIVING. Living is done with PASSION. It is done with an excitement and joy, DELIGHT taken in the “small” moments that become magical memories we never forget. It is done when we “throw” our heart and soul into a mission, so much that the passion we exude becomes CONTAGIOUS to all around us. It is when others can SEE us “glow”, the light from our soul escaping through the eyes into the world, “igniting” a spark inside them that creates a “domino effect”.

Without PASSION life is nothing. It is going through the motions. And life is not for “going through the motions”, having no real drive or purpose. It is for LIVING. Living is creating an “unforgettable” story that INSPIRES others through the way that life is lived. It is being scared and STILL taking the risk to leap from the cliff into the “unknown”, whether you find your wings on the way down to the rocks below and soar above the tumultuous waves, or plummet into the ocean depths. It is for sharing your life “experience” so that others can LEARN from it.

Life SHOULD be lived with passion. Passion INSPIRES the world. It CREATES beauty in chaos and purpose in uncertainty. It MASTERS the “art” of living and presents us a glimpse of heaven. It is the START of all things great achieved in this world, all mighty tasks undertaken, no matter the consequences. It instigates a soul into BEING, to bring it to “completeness”, as best as one can be, in being ALL that they can be, turning “potential” into REALITY.

2012 | Day 307: THE THREADS IN YOUR LIFE

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

THE THREADS IN YOUR SOUL

Just when you finally muster the courage and WILLINGNESS to open your soul to another, the one who started as a reason but grew to become a lifetime and who you thought gone forever reappears and turns your world upside down, bringing joy and hope, but also immeasurable pain and confusion, because even though you made your peace with it and let go, how you felt never changed even as EVERYthing changed. It is NOT fair on you, nor on the one you have started to open your heart to, but no one ever said life was fair and we must play the hand we are dealt as the cards appear.

Life is a tangled web and we must simply try to live it as BEST we can, untangling the threads twining through, in and over and under our own. Every thread ADDS something to your life, whether through love or loss, colour or black and white, each giving you an experience you will never forget, even the smallest of impressions changing something in your soul. Sometimes that change is MORE than you ever realize until you are suddenly aware of it, and when you are, can become a change so noticeable to the world that its effect ripples through your thread in others’ lives.

You have a choice: The love that made your soul so happy for the first time in forever and changed you in ways you could never imagine, but then destroyed you so completely you wanted to die and never be able to feel again, almost fading from existence without hope. Or the sweet promise of the new bud blooming in your soul, offering the appreciation and care that your life has been missing since forever, making you feel and want to be alive again; the glimpse of true happiness seen once before no longer an illusion but something tangible, tugging at your heart right there in front of you.

Life is a test we are all given, choices we all have to make, and you have only just been able to make your peace with letting that first soul-soaring, heart-wrenching love go. It has taken time, but you have dared to risk opening your heart again, not wanting to let go of the dream that was hidden for so long now brought to light, even if you know that it is a seed that may never break through the surface of life. You have come so far, TOO far to go back, and you do NOT want to go back from the darkness you escaped from; only to move FORWARD with your life, stepping into the new.

Time has a way of deceiving us, thinking we have it when we do not, so we canNOT waste the time we are given when we have it. We cannot go back and expect it to be as it was because it never will be, for everything has changed, especially this soul that has been through so much, broken and battered, but stronger for it, knowing what it must do, the path it must take, the decision that will change everything from here on out. It has taken all that time, all that experience, love and loss, ecstasy and pain, but your soul HAS been OPENED and it must STAY that way, each thread a brilliant gleam or soft glow tangled with your own.

2012 | Day 282: FREE TO BE ME

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

FREE TO BE ME

After spending a lifetime having to hide myself it is FREEDOM to be able to be me, truly and completely, and not have it matter who sees me as I am. The world is not a safe place, but the world where I am IS safe for me to reveal my soul and allow others a glimpse of my true self, instead of a mask that gives an impression they get that I hate.

I am free to be me, to show my heart, to speak my mind, to let loose my passions and follow my dreams. I am free to choose my own path to walk, instead of trying to carry everyone else on theirs and losing myself in the process. I am free to open the heart that I have had closed for so long, to let others IN to know and understand it. I am free to be free, my soul lighter by the day.

It’s not that in the past I lived a lie, but the me, the REAL me, was often hidden away, others seeing only aspects of the complexity, aspects that they wanted or needed to see and never any inclination of the entire picture, never let past the barrier surrounding me. I know the impressions the world has and sometimes still has, now, but I never used to, and part of me screams out to be SEEN, to make it realize who I TRULY am.

And now I am free to BE me, as I am. It is liberating, uplifting, refreshing, motivating, gives a smile and a lightness that has eluded me except in the tumultuous times of reflection and deliberation that have instigated immeasurable change in my soul. I AM free to be me and I LIKE it, and those who do not do have the choice to walk away.
