MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

ACT OF KINDNESS

It doesn’t take much – a smile, a hug, a few words of encouragement – to make a difference. You never know just what they might do, how significant such a small gesture might be to a soul in pain or struggling. Sometimes one small act of kindness, conscious or not, can change the course of another’s life – change their perspective, the words going over in their mind that they tell themselves, and in turn, their beliefs about themselves that from their actions stem.

We are not alone in this world. We are surrounded by billions of other souls, none any less significant or less precious than our own. We might never know the majority of them, never come into contact with multitudes, but we can also never UNDERestimate the effect we can make, even on those we will never physically meet – the words they read online or in print, the images they see that imprint into their psyche, the way everything comes together to form their reality of themselves.

No matter WHO you are - your “status” in life through power and position, the experiences that shaped you and created the person you are today – you can make a difference in someone ELSE’S life. All of us can. Just by opening our eyes to our hearts and understanding that even if one smiles does not mean there is not pain in their soul, because one laughs does not mean that the sound of tears does not echo louder inside them, when one extends a helping hand does not mean that they know how to deal with what is going on in their own life.

By realizing this, we can start to see how one small act of kindness every day can help not only others, but also OURSELVES. When you are in pain and give a smile you do not feel because you cannot bear to see another in pain can slowly warm your heart. Laughing with another even when you want to cry can slowly ease the burden of your tears. Extending a hand to help another in need can slowly give a glow that spreads through your soul, knowing that everything in time and for a purpose.

By changing something we might not even think we changed, we CAN make a difference. Making a difference in the life of another can ripple effect into the lives of those we do not even know, spread further than we could ever fathom, and start a chain reaction that changes more than we might possibly imagine. ONE small act of kindness might not change the world, but it is a START, for it starts with US, and when we change OURSELVES, we have the power to change ANYthing.

2013 | Day 67: OUR LIGHT

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

OUR LIGHT

Sometimes when life brings our spirits down, we forget that it is only temporary and that we have the power within us to light our OWN way. We have a flame inside us, whether it’s only a tiny ember in this moment. That flame has the potential to burn high AND bright and saturate the area around us with light so magnificent the path before us could not be clearer. We have the power to be a light, not just for ourselves, but for OTHERS as well. We have the courage, no matter how far down it is hidden, to work THROUGH anything life throws at us, no matter how destructive the heartache and pain.

When the walls are closing in on us, causing claustrophobia, our night sky devoid of stars, we have to reach down INSIDE of ourselves and look for that light. We need to search for that spark, no matter how small, and learn to wield it with such might that it cannot help but brighten the room so that we can see the walls, that crack in them for us to escape through. We have to let it become THE star in our night, guiding us back to the dawn, where everything is born again and given another chance at life and to reset our soul.

TRUST in yourself, in your instinct, in that light. Trust it to keep you alive when you think all is over and that there’s nothing left, when it gets hard and you have nowhere to turn, when the weight of the world feels as if it rests on your shoulders alone. Trust that the light you have inside you will see you through, that it can light up your ENTIRE world so that even the shadows are scared to come near. Trust that light and SURVIVE. Survive to LIVE!

2013 | Day 52: YOUR WINGS

MOTIVATIONAL OF THE DAY

YOUR WINGS

It matters not what MIGHT happen, for life does not always heed the desperate prayers of our hearts, and sometimes we can find our dreams tossed aside, out of control of the result. What matters is what you DO about it. You can choose to wallow in self-pity or you can see it as an opportunity to start over, new and fresh, a chance to spread your wings and see if you can FLY.

We ALL have wings. Just not everyone USES them. Maybe you’ve let yours be cut off, but they can always grow BACK. Maybe they’ve been clipped for a while, but now when you stretch them you feel the new STRENGTH in them. Maybe they’ve been open, but you’ve never risked taking OFF to try them out. Maybe you HAVE been flying, but something just knocked you out of the sky.

If you were flying, maybe you were alone or flying WITH another. Another who challenged you to fly HIGHER, to be BETTER, to see the beauty in the sunrise from such heights. But now they are GONE or nowhere to be found. You cannot rely on them to keep you GOING, to keep you pushing forward, to keep you striving to fly higher. You must do it for YOURSELF.

If a lightning bolt struck you down in the midst of a thunderstorm and you’re lying broken, battered, and torn on the muddy ground, you HAVE to get back UP and fix your wings. You have to MEND them. You need to HEAL and only YOU can do that, because only you know what you need.

No one knows how long it will take to mend your broken wings, but you have to at least TRY, for if you don’t you are only short-changing YOURSELF. No one else can do it for you. You have to CHOOSE to rebuild what has been broken and then have the COURGAE to spread your wings and fly again. No matter what you know might happen when you do.
